As January comes to an end, St. Dominic and its surrounding Catholic school community are kicking off Catholic Schools Week! It begins next Monday, January 27th, and continues until Friday, January 31st. This is a great time for Crusaders to show their school pride with fun activities, and also grow in their faith life.
Catholic Schools Week is a national event that showcases the importance and value of Catholic education and works towards growing students’ relationships with God. Throughout the week there will be many opportunities for students to dress down and also celebrate with their classmates.
“Monday we celebrate the pillar of study with a little twist by being able to dress up as your favorite teacher,” learning consultant Mrs. Gerard said.
During Catholic Schools Week it gives students the chance to get out of the day-to-day uniform and wear comfy clothes. Even though we are dressing down, we are able to show our appreciation to our favorite teachers around St. Dominic.
“On Wednesday we will celebrate the pillar of prayer. We will be celebrating mass together in honor of our house system, which will look a little different but a new tradition for Catholic schools week,” Mrs. Gerard said.
The house system is divided into six houses and many different families. This mass will be a great way to add a new tradition to St. Dominic for later years to come. This time is a chance to connect with others in your house and your family.
“Last but not least Thursday we will celebrate the pillar of community. To bring everyone together we will have an old tradition come back. We will have an all school block party during family time, as well as having a guest speaker,” Mrs. Gerard said.
On Thursday, St. Dominic will get the chance to welcome special guest Sister M. Karolyn. The crusaders will have the opportunity to sit and listen to advice from a different perspective.
Catholic Schools Week not only connects St. Dominic’s community, but it also connects St. Dominic as a whole to the Catholic faith that surrounds us every single day. The Crusaders are excited to see what next week will bring, so be sure to get involved and enjoy this special time to celebrate our faith.
