Over the weekend St. Dominic’s girls golf team competed in the MSHSAA Class 4 State Championship. The defending State champions ended their weekend by taking fourth overall. All five of our girls were also on our State champion team last year including senior Annabelle Busch, juniors Bella Daniel, Lily Seydel, and Elaina Nieters, as well as sophomore Sophia Bezdek.
Before the girls were sent off to state, they took a lot of time in and outside of practice to prepare. Many of the girls would practice their skills on their own time at home. They also put in the work and trained after school so that they were prepared for the big championship.
“I would of course go practice everyday and we would go to the course Monday through Thursday and then Friday we would go to the driving range. On the weekends I would go to the course twice and then either go to the range before or after I played at the course,” junior Bella Daniel said.
The team’s only senior had a great weekend of her own. Annabelle Bush finished the weekend only one stroke behind the champion. This tournament was not new territory for Bush, as she has been competing at this high of a level since she was a freshman.
“My favorite part about state was being with my team and coaches one last time, as well as other seniors from schools that I have played with throughout my 4 years. I was able to reminisce on all the memories with my team which was super special and unforgettable,” senior Annabelle Bush said.
Annabelle had a great senior year by playing her heart out and she has many more things coming her way. She plans on attending Drake University next year to play at the highest level for golf and to study business management.
Although playing in the championship can be very stressful, the girls had a lot of fun. One of their favorite things about it was getting to become closer with their teammates. These girls spent all season together working as a team to make it to where they did.
“I loved bonding with my teammates and we all definitely got closer when we all went to state. I also had so much fun going to Texas Road House after senior night,” Lily Seydel said.
These girls had such a great season, and they finished it out strong. If you see any of these ladies in the hall make sure you congratulate them!!
