As the leaves turn orange and the weather starts getting colder, the excitement of Halloween begins. For many, one of the most thrilling aspects of this spooky night is the hunt for the perfect costume.
Whether you’re aiming for spooky, funny or creative, finding the perfect costume can be a little bit of a challenge. Here’s a list to hopefully help narrow down your choices.
Throwback
Throwback Halloween costumes bring back beloved characters and styles from the past that not many people expect to see. From classic TV shows and iconic movie characters to retro fashion trends, these costumes are a chance to relive our childhood memories. Ideas include gangsters, hippies, 80’s neon and Y2K.
Trendy
Expect to see a wave of outfits inspired by current fashion trends. These costumes change every year to fit fashion standards and match current events. This year, popular costumes include dressing up as a Stanley Cup, becoming a minion, or sporting green and purple as the Joker.
“For Halloween this year I’m being Post Malone, because I like to go above and beyond,” senior Madeline Hunsel said.
Classics
Many consider Halloween to have a nostalgia feel to it, which is often brought out through Classic Halloween costumes. These costumes have been around for years, and aren’t leaving anytime soon. Ideas of classic costumes include clowns, cats, and witches.
“For Halloween I’m doing things a little different, I’m dressing up as PennyWise for work, and I get to scare lots of people,” senior Amelia Reeves said.
Spooky
To fit the mysterious theme of Halloween many people choose to dress in scary costumes. Luckily, there is a wide range of spooky costumes, many of which include blood, masks, and fangs, all of which are sure to scare anyone in sight. Popular costume ideas include Wolves, Ghosts, and Vampires.
Group Costumes
Over the past couple of years, group costumes have risen on the popularity charts. This is a great idea for friend groups, as group costumes are a great way to come together and celebrate Halloween. In the past, popular ideas have included Alvin and the Chipmunks, Ompalompaas, and Crayons.
“For my costume this year my friends and I are doing big cats such as a panther, leopard, and a cheetah. We chose this because it was fun and easy. Also all the different accessories that go along with the costumes,” senior Ava Pritt said.
As Halloween is approaching, make sure to celebrate the spooky season. Remember to take advantage of the popular holiday, especially by dressing up in a fun, festive Halloween costume.
