On Sunday morning, St. Dominic will open their doors for their annual open house event. This year, the special day will include tours, presentations, and more for all visiting families. It’s important for families to explore everything St. Dominic has to offer and experience the amazing Dominic community.
Like past years, St. Dominic ambassadors meet new families at the front doors and guide them through a tour.
“Ambassadors are representatives and the face of the school during open house so we want to make sure families are getting information, not only from adults but also students themselves,” Assistant Director of Admissions Mrs. Victoria Mennemeier said.
During the tours, visitors will be led throughout St. Dominic’s campus, starting in the new building and ending in the big gym. Along the way, the families get to experience the magic of St. Dominic. Additionally, each tour is personalized to fit visitors’ likings, making sure they’re able to explore all their interests.
“It’s important to actually see St. Dominic because it is a whole different experience than just hearing about it,” Mennemeier said.
Along with touring many educational classrooms, families are led through the chapel to learn more about Dominic’s faith life. Dominic prides itself on having four pillars: Prayer, Study, Community, and Service. Each of these pillars contribute to St. Dominic’s catholic identity which is important for visitors to know and understand.
“Peer ministry leads a presentation on the importance of the pillars, and their effect on the St. Dominic community. This is definitely one of the most important parts of the tour” senior Delaney Quinn said.
Many St. Dominic students have volunteered to work the event. It is a fantastic way to receive a few service hours and an even better way to assist the Dominic community. All students who work at the open house are treated with breakfast, which fuels them for a day of leadership and guidance.
“I’ve always enjoyed working open house because your able to meet future students of St. Dominic, and see all that is in store for upcoming years,” senior Erica Jurgensmeyer said.
Throughout the day numerous presentations take place in the large gym. Many of St. Dominic’s clubs and sports teams set up tables and visuals for future St. Dominic families. This draws many individuals in as St. Dominic club leaders, coaches, and students are more than welcoming to the families.
“I remember walking through the presentations and matching them with my likings. Seeing everything St. Dominic had to offer really got my attention as an eighth grader,” senior Henry Wood said.
Every year, St. Dominic’s open house grows larger and larger, showing the school’s enormous growth. If you are interested in learning more about St. Dominic, or would like to tour the school, St. Dominic invites you to attend Open House on Sunday, October 20th.
