The best time of the year has finally arrived as spirit week begins today and leads up to the Homecoming dance this Saturday. This year the week’s dress-down themes do not disappoint, and the week is filled with fun events such as the pep-rally and Friday night football game.
“I look forward to dressing up and participating in the fun activities Dominic gives us,” junior Piper Wiegmann said.
Today, students dressed down in either their country club gear or country attire as the theme was Country Club vs. Country. This theme is a favorite amongst students at St. Dominic as they enjoy choosing what to wear. In the past, students that choose to go the country route usually wear jeans, while those that wear Country Club attire wear polos.
“I’ll probably dress up as Country Club but it is hard to choose,” senior Lana Shepard said.
On Tuesday, a new theme was welcomed into St. Dominic called “Rhyme without Reason.” This theme includes dressing with a friend, but making sure your outfits rhyme with one another. Many students are already coming up with ideas such as “Bumblebee and Christmas tree” and “Ironman and garbage can”. At first this might appear tricky, but in reality many students will find this theme to be fun.
“My friend and I plan on dressing up as P.J and D.J, that way I can dress in comfy clothes and she can dress in disco clothes” senior Jenna Warren said.
As a catholic school, St. Dominic always makes sure to incorporate Mass into spirit week. It is so important to include our faith into the Homecoming celebrations. That being said, on Wednesday morning students will attend all school mass and are expected to wear typical mass attire.
“Mass is such a large part of our catholic identity, and it’s great to gather together as a school to celebrate our faith,” senior Henry Wood said.
On Thursday, the halls of St. Dominic will be bursting with color as the theme is “Neon.” This spirit theme is easy to follow as it simply includes bright colors. Nonetheless, students make sure to go all out and often wear all shades of neon yellow, pink, and green.
“I love dressing in neon colors, because it’s simple but such a fun and colorful theme,” senior Ava Gandolfo said.
As always, Friday is the best day of the week as it includes the school pep rally, and Friday night football. During the day, freshman and juniors will dress in white, while sophomores and seniors will wear blue. Either way, celebrating St. Dominic is the goal of the day and what better way to do so than sporting Dominic’s colors?
“I’ve always loved dressing in St. Dominic colors because it’s fun to see students dress alike to support our school,” sophomore Izzy Woytus said.
The most highly anticipated event happens Saturday night when the Homecoming Dance finally occurs. This year’s theme is Midnight Memories and is sure to make for a fun night. Remember to buy your tickets, and pick up your shirts before it is too late!
