Now that the House dodgeball competition has wrapped up, it’s time to welcome the newest House challenge: The Freshman Showdown.
Beginning last Monday, the Freshman Showdown is a chance for freshmen to prove themselves to their Houses, and bond with the other freshmen in their families. As the House System evolves, so do its events. Head of House Caritas, Elise Kehoe, believes that the Freshman Showdown has been majorly improved since her freshman year.
“I think the freshman competition has improved since my freshman year because we have new roles to organize this event, such as new member captains. These leaders work very hard with Mrs. Hagan comes up with fun ideas for the freshman to engage in, which leads to an entertaining competition,” Kehoe said.
New Member Captains are responsible for organizing the events of the Freshman Showdown, and keeping it running smoothly. This year, the freshmen are competing in flip cup tic tac toe, and ping pong drop. In addition to organizing the competition, the New Member Captains also have to guide their teams of freshmen to success to the best of their abilities.
“My role as a New Member Captain means I get to help come up with games, show the freshmen how to play, and help the freshmen competition go as smoothly as possible,” New Member Captain for House Caritas, Anya Bannan said.
For our freshmen, this is their first real introduction to the House System and its competitions. This is also their first chance to work as a team with their Families.
“Competing with my family during Family Time was easy and no trouble at all, this was because we all know each other so we make a fairly good team when it comes to working together in the competition,” Freshman David Flick said.
As the Freshman Showdown continues, make sure to show your support for your Family’s freshmen!
