It’s that time of year again! As St. Dominic moves past its largely anticipated spirit week, it begins an equally exciting few weeks. House dodgeball is officially upon us.
The House dodgeball tournament is the perfect way to open up inter-House competitions for the year. Dodgeball is highly collaborative and fun to watch, and for many families this is their first chance to put their teamwork to the test. Senior Ava Diebling from House Virtus, is using the tournament as an opportunity to bond with her Family.
“Right now I am just trying to get my Family hyped up and ready for the competition. I love the House system and think it provides a great opportunity to have fun and get closer to my class,” Diebling said.
The House dodgeball tournament has been highly anticipated by both students and faculty alike. Each player has been carefully selected to bring success to their team. Junior Abby Woytus is up for the challenge of representing House Gratia.
“I’m going to be really good at dodging the balls, which isn’t talked about a lot, but comes in handy,” Woytus said.
This year, the competition is fierce. Senior Landon Bateman is confident that House Dignitas will take the competition, despite the challenge the other houses pose.
“It’s all or nothing for Dig. I think Gratia or Caritas will be our biggest challenge,” Bateman said.
Although dodgeball is the first house tournament, it is not the only one that the student body gets excited about. Other tournaments such as nitro ball, penny wars, and ultimate frisbee are just a few of the competitions that whip the students into a frenzy.
“Dodgeball is not one of my favorites because we are just playing a game and not giving something to people who need it. I would rather be raising money for the less fortunate,” Junior Holly Kwapiszski said.
For some students, this is a chance to embrace their competitive nature. Junior Ashley Gibson of House Caritas was eager to join the competition.
“I wanted to represent my family because I’m a very competitive person who does not like to lose. I want to be a part of the reason for the win,” Gibson said.
Some participants were chosen at random, while others are avid players of House games. Sophomore Douglas Koch is passionate about helping bring House Gaudium to glory.
“I competed in a competition towards the end of last year and I love volunteering to help Gaudium win,” Douglas Koch said.
Overall, this week will be filled with lots of student participation and dedication. House competitions such as these allow for the building of stronger relationships and for some good old fashioned friendly competition. You can keep up with the competition by following along on the house system home page. Make sure to show some support for our players this week!
