A Season for Redemption
Coming off of a season that resulted in a heartbreaking loss in the district finals, the St. Dominic boys soccer team is ready for a rebounding season. One that will hopefully result in a return to state. With lots of preparation the boys will certainly be a team to watch for this fall.
The boys face a full schedule filled with some of the top teams in the St. Louis area such as: Vianney, CBC, and Desmet. However Coach Koeller is very optimistic about the boys chances.
“We purposely challenge ourselves with playing the top opponents . No matter how successful you believe yourself to be, you can never feel as though you have reached the absolute pinnacle. There are always new and amazing challenges out there, and part of maintaining success is to know when to accept them” Coach Koeller said.
The boys are no strangers to facing top level teams. Over time this has led to the creation of many rivalries such as Liberty High School, a familiar postseason matchup for the Crusaders. Their most recent game being the District Championship last season in which the Crusaders were upset by the Eagles. That loss has been a fueling point for many of the returning players such as junior Jacob Kenkel.
“The loss was a big shock to all. We were not expecting that result. This year we are feeling more confident than ever. We are putting in the work to succeed and go far this year,” Kenkel said.
With the level of prestige that St. Dominic soccer has in the community, expectations are very high this year among coaches and players. The team has learned from past mistakes and are ready to show off this year.
“Our team will strive for excellence. In order to do so , we have to embrace continual work on the small details and fundamentals. This season the team is establishing a strong foundation of partnership and will utilize their shared tools for success. We will be fun to watch!” Coach Koeller said.
Be sure to check out the team this year and be on the lookout for breakout stars, great plays, and big results!
