20 Movies in 20 Years

Annie Leibovitz

The Greatest Showman, made 2017 is one of the most brilliant films made in the history of movie. We’d definitely recommend to watch it.

These past twenty years have been full of brilliantly produced films. There’s so many amazing movies, from 2000 to 2020, that have left me speechless! So here are, in my opinion, the best movies from over the past two decades.

2000: X-Men

Even though I wasn’t born yet, I have seen tons of movies from the year 2000. I’d have to say my favorite movie that was released that year was X-Men. This movie was totally action packed, and I adored everything about it. This was one of my very first superhero movies, and it helped me fall in love with them.

2001: Monsters Inc.

Yet another movie before my time, but I don’t think a single family hasn’t seen Monsters, Inc. When I was a kid, I used to watch this movie all the time—it was perfect for when we wanted to get a good laugh in and spend some time together as a family.

2002: Scooby-Doo

My favorite film made in 2002 would definitely have to be Scooby-Doo. This live action version of a cartoon classic always makes me laugh in the best way possible, and it’s always so fun to watch the Scooby Gang solve a mystery. Also, any time I watch this movie I get major nostalgia for the good old days!

2003: Finding Nemo

I have to go with another childhood favorite and say Finding Nemo was my favorite movie made in 2003. Finding Nemo is actually one of my all time favorite films, as it was a huge part of my childhood—and Nemo is just so dang adorable! He could never fail to put a smile on my face.

2004: The Notebook

Of course, the classic rom-com The Notebook had to be on the list. This movie is always great to watch when you need a good cry, as it’s definitely a tear jerker. Not only is this an amazing story to follow, but it is based on a real couple! The Notebook is perfect for a girls night as well.

2005: Madagascar

Madagascar would have to be my favorite movie made in 2005. This movie has an amazing cast, and the voice actors were perfect for each animal in the movie. Stars including Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, David Schwimmer and Jada Pickett Smith all were featured in the movie. Madagascar always gives me nostalgia, and I love to watch it when I need a good smile.

2006: Night at the Museum

In the year 2006 my favorite movie made in this year would have to be Night at the Museum. This movie has so many amazing actors like Robin William, Ben Stiller, and Owen Wilson who put the whole film together. This film was also very creative with so many cool ideas like the whole museum coming to life at night.

2007: Transformers

The movie Transformers is by far my favorite film made in 2007. The movie brings cars to life by making them “transform” into huge war robots, which is pretty awesome in my opinion. This movie also started a huge franchise, and they profited majorly off of these films.

2008: Iron Man

The Marvel cinematic universe begins! Iron Man was released over 12 years ago, and I’d have to say that it is still relevant today. I have always been a huge Marvel fan, and Iron Man was always my favorite superhero. Tony Stark was the first of many Avengers to come.

2009: The Proposal

The Proposal is my favorite movie from 2009, and is one of my favorite rom-coms ever made. It has the perfect amount of romance and comedy, and it makes you fall in love with characters and their story. The Proposal also has the brilliant Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, who make the love story really come to life.

2010: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief went from books to the big screen in 2010. Though it did not follow the plot of the books, pretty much at all, the movie brings to life the trials of Percy Jackson and how he must deal with Greek gods and goddesses. I think it’s really cool to see this stuff come to life, and I love seeing the demigods in action.

2011: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1

The beginning of the end started when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1 came out in 2011. This movie is just such a classic forbidden love story, and it has that werewolf/vampire combination that makes the plot even better. This was yet another adapted movie, and Twilight fans went crazy over it.

2012: The Hunger Games

One of my all time favorite movies ever made has to be The Hunger Games. This movie was very action packed, and had so many jump scares incorporated into a serious plot. There’s a huge message about wealth and power, and I love that Katniss does everything she can to overcome stereotypes. No one can ever go wrong with being a Katniss Everdeen fan!

2013: The Great Gatsby

I would have to say that The Great Gatsby takes the cake for 2013, old sport. This movie has so many hidden messages and symbols that I love to decode and figure out before the movie ends. I love the fact that it isn’t a modern day film, but one based on the 1920s.

2014: The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner is an action-packed science fiction movie, also based on a best-selling novel. I think they really did the books justice, as the movie stays pretty true to the series. This is a fantastically-made movie that keeps you on your toes with all the plot twists and mystery.

2015: San Andreas

San Andreas was a very well put-together film, and it addressed the serious topic of earthquakes while keeping everyone’s interest along the way. It also starred Dwayne Johnson as the main character, so you know there’s going to be some major action within this movie!

2016: Me Before You

2016 gave us the gorgeous film Me Before You. This movie brought so many tears to my eyes! Me Before You is a film full of romance, and it’s a tragic love story. Though it ends with a sad ending, it shows the realistic way of life and helps us understand that it’s not always sunshine and rainbows.

2017: The Greatest Showman

My favorite movie of all time was made in 2017—The Greatest Showman. This film had some of my absolute favorite actors and actresses in it, including Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Zendaya and Keala Settle. The soundtrack and choreography is unbeatable, and there will never be anything like this movie.

2018: Mama Mia! Here We Go Again

Mama Mia! Here We Go Again brought many laughs to 2018. Everything about this film makes me happy; the singing, the dancing and the storyline all bring a huge smile to my face. This movie is a representation of a mother and daughters relationship, and how one’s daughter could easily relive her mother’s past.

2019: Avengers: Endgame

In 2019, Avengers: Endgame made history. This movie had so many plot twists that no single Marvel fan could have seen coming, and definitely will bring tears to your eyes by the end. This was one of my favorite Marvel movies so far, because you got to see almost every single Marvel superhero fight together in an effort to defeat Thanos.

2020: Wonder Woman 1984

My favorite movie to come out of 2020 would have to be Wonder Woman 1984. This movie portrays a great amount of woman empowerment that we all love to see! We need more strong women shown in the media, and this is just gen beginning.

Each and every one of these movies brought me a great amount of joy when watching them. If you haven’t seen any on this list, I would definitely recommend every single one! Grab a snack, a comfy blanket and your laptop, and enjoy!
