Star Wars Surprises: Mandalorian Easter Eggs
Move over baby Yoda, The Mandalorian is about much more than Star Wars’ cutest little character. The Mandalorian has quickly become one of the most popular shows to stream, topping many charts. It is packed with action, suspense and most importantly, hidden Easter eggs.
This past week, Episode 5: The Gunslinger was released, and it is full of hidden secrets and plenty of Easter eggs. The episode starts out on good ol’ Tatooine. The iconic planet, which played a huge role in all the Star Wars films, hasn’t been seen since 2005 in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
As soon as Mando and “the child,” better known as baby Yoda, land on Tatooine, the surprises begin. When Mando lands, he is met by a trio of pit droids. These droids were first seen in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 1999. Later, the same droids are seen playing Sabaac, a card game made famous by Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Next, Mando heads to look for work. He ends up inside the famous Mos Eisley Cantina. This cantina made its first appearance in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Fans will notice that the Cantina that once banned C-3PO and R2-D2 now allows all droids to enter.
Once inside the cantina, Mando meets a new character named Toro. Toro is sitting in the same booth that Han Solo sat in when he blasted Greedo, and is even sitting in the style of Han Solo. Once Mando and Torro have decided to work together, they end up riding speeder bikes across the sand dunes, just like Anakin Skywalker in Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
When the team makes it to Fennec Shand (the intended target), Mando tells Toro, “She’s got the high ground. She’ll wait for us to make the first move.” This line is a reference back to Obi Wan Kenobi’s line to Anakin during their Revenge of the Sith lightsaber battle. Not long after, Mando utters another famous line, “She’s no good to us dead.” This is a reference back to Boba Fett’s 1980 line to Darth Vader about Han Solo right before he is frozen in carbonate.
Episode 5 of The Mandalorian is full of Easter eggs. So many Easter eggs that most people will probably have to watch the episode more than once to catch them all. Be sure to catch all the secrets in Episode 5 and the rest of The Mandalorian this season!
