Spooky+STL

It is finally October, and along with October come all things spooky. Whether it be halloween costumes, scary movies or even scary places, there is plenty to do this month. Missouri itself is home to many haunted places, some of which are even considered the most haunted in America. Check out this list of the top local haunted places, if you dare.

Main Street St. Charles

Main Street is known for its charming shops and restaurants, as well as its classic celebration Christmas Traditions; however, there is much more to this pleasant street than meets the eye. Main Street is home to many ghosts, so many in fact that it is considered one of the most haunted places in America. The street’s rich history and historic significance make it the perfect place for these haunts. Ghost tours are even offered every night throughout October at 7:00, 9:30 and 11:55.

Exorcist House

This St. Louis household is responsible for one of the most iconic horror movies. This house was home to the boy who inspired the story for the book and film The Exorcist. While you can’t go in the house itself (it’s private property), horror movie fans can still go to the house and view it for themselves.

Lemp Mansion

Lemp Mansion was home to the Lemp family, a family of some of the first lager brewers here in STL. After many deaths, suicides and scandals, their mansion is now haunted by many ghosts. Today, the mansion is home to a restaurant and hotel. They also host murder mystery dinners, weddings and of course, ghost tours.

These ghost tours are available every Monday at 7:00 p.m. with special dates and times available through October.

Zombie Road

Zombie Road is a short, wooded, road in Wildwood. By day this road is nothing more than a simple trail, but by night, the trail turns haunted. This road used to be the sight of an Indian burial ground, was used in the Civil War and is now home to many haunts. While exploring this road at night, one may encounter spirits of American Indians, Confederate rebels, packs of child ghosts and the souls of tortured workers killed in industrial accidents.

Missouri State Penitentiary

The Missouri State Penitentiary was said to be home to ghosts long before it opened as a tourist attraction. Both guards and prisoners used to complain of ghosts. Today many tours are offered in hopes of seeing some kind of paranormal activity. Tourists have reported everything from feeling something grab them, to random unexplained noises or even seeing real ghosts. If you wish to take a ghost tour here, there are many options including a two hour tour or an overnight investigation.

Overall, Missouri is home to many haunted places. This makes it the perfect place to be for Halloween. Whether you are looking for something near or far, Missouri has it all. Make sure to check out these haunted places in order to prepare for this Halloween.
