You Just Got Pranked
When April 1 rolls around, family, friends and teachers better stay sharp, as April Fool’s Day is the prime time to pull out your best jokes and most intricate pranks.
From simple jokes like “Your socks are untied!” to surprises such as covering cars in wrapping paper, many people pulled out all the stops, as pranks were out in full swing.
Many St. Dominic students enjoy pulling pranks, so April Fool’s Day is right up their alley. Junior Meaghan Fleming is an avid pranker year-round, and no one is safe from her mischievous acts, especially not her family.
“I used to do 25 days of pranks starting December 1, but I had to retire after my sophomore year when I got grounded for gluing everything in my family’s bathrooms to their sinks. It was a health hazard and if the glue had gotten in someone’s contact or in their mouth from their toothbrush, it would have been very bad. I definitely learned my lesson about taking things too far,” Fleming said.
Even teachers are in on the action too. Mrs. Nikki Schuler pulled a prank on her junior class last year before they began reading The Crucible.
“I told them someone keyed my car, and administrative has it on camera of who did it. They needed to sign a sheet agreeing if no one confessed, the entire class would get in trouble. All the girls were on the verge of tears and the boys were accusing each other. During the class, a police car was in the parking lot and everyone was freaking out. When I told them it was a joke, they were surprised,” Schuler said.
Although the pranks are usually all fun and games, many do not find them so amusing. Even big companies like Microsoft have asked employees to avoid pulling pranks in the office because they slow production, and many people find pranks annoying and unnecessary.
On Monday, McDonald’s Australia decided to pull their own prank, which completely backfired. They released the new “McPickle burger” that offered layers of pickles instead of a patty. Many did not catch on to the joke and were disappointed to find out the tasty new burger was fake.
Whether you had big plans for April Fool’s Day or tried to avoid the mischief, this April 1 was full to the brim with surprises.
