All In, All the Time: Luke Pescarino

Luke Pescarino

St. Dominic senior Luke Pescarino suffered a devastating injury at the football game nearly two weeks ago against Orchard Farm, which resulted in both a broken tibia and fibula. Though it brought his time on the football field to a close, he has showed that his strength is bigger and better than his setback. Luke is loved by so many, and his commitment to football is just one of the endless ways he shows what it truly means to be a Crusader.

Luke is full of faith and it shines. This year, he is a peer minister and a member of Viri Dei. One of our campus ministers, Mr. Andrew Struttmann, is very proud to have Luke as a part of peer ministry this year.

“Luke Pescarino is one of those kids that has the ‘it’ factor. Others are naturally drawn to him as a person. Since he is so faith-filled, he is a great model of what a young person should be. I truly think he tries to give God glory in all that he does, including peer ministry, football, school and his relationships,” said Struttmann.

One thing that can be sometimes difficult to find is a genuine friendship. Now, being a senior in high school, Luke understands what it means to be a true friend. He makes his friendship known to not only his close pals but to the entire St. Dominic community.

“Luke is the type of friend you can always depend on. I can always rely on him to have a good time, or help me in a situation. We can see this friendship in everything he participates in our school’s community,” said senior Ryan Box.

Luke has found brotherhood throughout four years both on and off the turf with his football team. He couldn’t have asked for a better group to walk hand in hand with through their highest and lowest points.

“The first year or two it was just a friendship, but after all of the training, hard practices, wins and losses we’ve been through, it’s become a family that I’m not looking forward to leaving after this year,” said Pescarino.

One of Luke’s biggest supporters is Coach Markway. He is aware of just how much work he puts into everything he does, and he couldn’t have asked for a better player.

“Luke Pescarino is as dedicated of a teammate and as good of a young man as I’ve had the privilege to coach in 17 years. He embodies what it means to be 1/11th and do his part on and off the field for the rest of the team to have success over individual desires. It is because of this attitude, effort and his commitment to service at St. Dominic that I nominated Luke this summer for the 2018 Good Hands Team as part of the Missouri Football Coaches Association recognition of student athletes who are the ultimate teammate and give back to the community and others off the field,” said Markway.

Luke had his surgery on Monday, and he is on his way to a speedy recovery. Both fans and teammates will miss seeing him in action out on the field; however, we are so proud of him and his tremendous commitment to the St. Dominic community.
