Rounding the Bases of the Season

Our spring sports teams are finally getting the weather they desperately needed. After plenty of rainouts and cancellations, the baseball team is getting in the swing of things. The team has gotten off to a rocky start. They have a record of 9-10, including a game on Monday against Timberland and back-to-back games against St. Mary’s.

With turbulent weather to start the season, the team has had a packed schedule, playing 18 games in about a month. The boys are trying to stay healthy and play through their fatigue.

¨The biggest challenge so far has been playing so many games in a row because it not only challenges you physically, but mentally as well,¨ said senior Brennan Whitt.

The boys have set high standards for themselves, but they believe they have the potential to meet and exceed their expectations.

¨My goal is to make a district run this year. I think this team has a good chance of doing so. Since we are about midway through the season, it’s time to start producing more consistently, and that means winning more consistently,¨ said senior Luke Cross.

Although the season is only halfway through, the team has had some memorable moments.

¨My biggest accomplishment this year is a walk-off hit against Duchesne early in the season,” said Whitt.

Even Mother Nature couldn’t help the Pioneers this year.

The boys go on the road next week to play St. Charles West on Monday and Duchesne on Wednesday. Congratulations to the boys on a good start and we wish them good luck heading forward in their season.
