Track Season

With track season in full swing, our speedy Crusaders have been making the best of their season and accomplishing a lot before the school year comes to a close.

The girls’ team placed second overall at the Orchard Farms meet last week, and have had a blast working together all season.

“This track season our team has worked super hard to encourage others and help them be the best they can be. Practice might not always be so fun, but the meets are amazing! At the meets we are able to meet kids from other schools, build up confidence and most of all, have fun. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for the rest of the year,” said junior Hayley Merriott.

The girls having been putting in so much effort, and the outcome is well worth it. Freshman Emily Marut ran 13.00 seconds in the 100 meter dash, senior Teresa Enloe ran 1:09:78 minutes in the 400 meter dash and senior Lauren Dougherty reached 32’00.00 in the triple jump.

The boys have been working hard as well and that paid off in an overall first place win. They won the Orchard Farm Invitational and SD Welcome Meet. They finished fourth at the Crusader Invitational and seventh out of 20 teams at the Montgomery County Invitational. Coach Blake Markway is very proud of all the boys and their accomplishments.

“We’ve had some standout performances from some guys that will compete with their current times and distance at the district and sectional level,” said Coach Markway.

Jack McCormick ran 11.14 seconds in the 100m and 23.00 seconds in the 200m sprinter. Blake Schneider threw 142 feet and Tyler Mersnick threw 126 feet in javelin. Kevin Reynolds threw 44 feet in shot put. Jon Remmers reached 4.52 in the 1600 meter. Tyler Sachs reached 11 feet in pole vault, and Keith Beckmann reached 5′ 8″ in the high jump.

With these great accomplishments comes experiences and memories our seniors will cherish upon leaving St. Dominic.

“The season is going well. It’s been fun as usual and I have done pretty well so far. I will miss it a lot whenever I am gone because I will miss some of the friends that I have made from it and the competitive aspect. The season has been good, but it has also been very cold. I think we will start getting better and better as it warms up,” said senior Keith Beckmann.

Make sure to come out and cheer our Crusaders on as the weather (hopefully) warms up before the season ends! Their next meet is Tuesday, May 1, at 1:30 PM at Christian High School.
