Does All Water Taste the Same?

Whoever said all water tastes the same must have hit their head a few too many times as a child. Not only are electrolytes and chemicals added to bottled water to give the product taste, it also gives customers the chance to find the water that’s right for them.

SmartWater
St. Dominic students are familiar with the tall clear SmartWater bottles sold in our own cafeteria. However, I can’t help but question why someone would spend the money on SmartWater when there are so many better options out there. In my opinion, SmartWater has a similar taste to very watered down lemonade that leaves your throat feeling scratchy and more thirsty than before. Not to mention the thin and flimsy bottle can be annoying to drink out of.

Voss
Everyone knows Voss by its simple and sophisticated design. However, I do not think Voss water is everything it’s hyped up to be. Sure, the outside is appealing, but once you open up the seal, it tastes like normal tap water.

Lifewater
You can’t miss spotting Lifewater in the midst of all the other clear and simple water bottle designs when you walk into the store. With its vibrant and unique patterns, you’re bound to be curious and give it a try. I think it’s the better version of SmartWater considering their bottle structure is similar, but Lifewater one-ups it in every way. Lifewater has a sweet and satisfying aftertaste, leaving the consumer refreshed.

Eternal
Eternal water has a very unique design with the label on the inside of the bottle, allowing the words to be magnified to the front. If the design itself doesn’t make you want to pick it up, the advertising on the back, “Imported from Earth,” definitely will. The water itself was very smooth and tastes similar to Fiji, but has a lower price.

Fiji
This was my first time trying Fiji water since I never bothered to buy the more expensive water at the store. However, after trying it I can understand why it is in such high demand. Of all the water I tried it was definitely the smoothest and most refreshing. Despite being overpriced, the water itself stood out among the others.

Water comes in all kinds of different bottles, brands, flavors, colors, etc. Considering all the different forms water comes in, how could it all taste the same? Next time you pick up a water from the gas station, try a brand you’ve never had before—it may become your new favorite.
