10 Underrated Songs From St. Dominic Students

“See You Again” by Tyler The Creator and Kali Uchis

This beautiful rap ballad is one the most overlooked hip-hop tracks of 2017. It trades the booming beats and boasting lyrics of your everyday rap song for captivating melodies and poetic lyrics about falling in love. The smooth sweetness of Kali Uchis’ vocals and the rough raspiness of Tyler The Creator’s rapping make for an unexpected and delightful combination. This is the perfect track listen to while you’re chilling on a rainy day or daydreaming about your crush.
“I like how this song is real emotion and doesn’t attempt to brag or be better than others. It’s an actual heartfelt rap song that is also extremely catchy,” said Kuester.

This upbeat pop anthem is sure to get you on your feet. It’s extremely catchy and the perfect song to blast in you car on the highway with all the windows down. The triumphant horns and melodic guitar make for an infectious beat and the vocals are quite complementing. It’s impossible to listen to this song without wanting to break out dancing.
“It’s has sort of a mellow beat but it’s still bumpin’. I listen to it constantly. It deserves more popularity because it’s a great song! ” said Slaid.
“Little Black Submarines” by The Black Keys

The Black Keys are responsible for some unforgettable jams and their song “Little Black Submarines” does not disappoint. This roller coaster of a song starts off slow with soft vocals and a laid back acoustic guitar. About a minute into the song, the pace changes as some hard-hitting drums and an electric guitar come in. This song is the ultimate pump-up jam, perfect for getting ready for a big game, waking up in the morning or working on the job.
“Picture” by Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock

This classic country duet is the perfect track to sob your eyes out to. Country legends Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock team up for this laid back yet heartbreaking tune. While it was a hit in the early 2000s, it has since been forgotten and deserves a lot more credit. If you’re a fan of country music or just sad songs in general, be sure to take a listen.
“I think their voices go great together. It’s a classic, and it should never be forgotten,” said Sitz.
“Never Wanted Nothing More” by Kenny Chesney

If you’re in the mood for a more upbeat country song, here’s something for you. While Kenny Chesney is known for his plethora of country hits, “Never Wanted More” has flown under the radar and deserves recognition. Chesney’ iconic vocals paired with the classic early 2000s country sound of this song make it a perfect addition to your country playlist. The sentimental lyrics about appreciating the little things in life also add a lot to the song. If you’re looking for new country music, this track is definitely worth a listen.
“I like it because it talks about the simplicity of life and that you don’t need to have everything to be happy,” said Mudd.

This indie pop/rock song’s catchy refrain and uplifting lyrics will leave you wanting to listen to it over and over again. The solid vocals and guitar make for a great sounding track that you’ll want to sing and dance along to. Not only does it sounds great, it also has a deep and thought-provoking message about staying positive and not letting the negativity of others bring you down.
“Not only does it have a pretty solid message, it’s an incredibly catchy song. When I first heard it, I had to keep replaying it,” said Bradley.
“Best Part” by Daniel Caesar featuring H.E.R.

Daniel Caesar and H.E.R. are two incredibly talented R&B artists on the rise. The soothing vocals and heartfelt lyrics on this song showcase both artists’ singing and songwriting skills. Their voices make for the perfect combination, resulting in a slow and relaxing beat. This track gives off a very laid-back vibe, perfect for your early morning drive to school.
“The vocal delivery feels so emotional, and the simple beat and love-struck lyrics create a beautiful picture of what it feels like to be in love,” said Hollowell.
“Roll With The Punches” by The Blue Stones

While The Blue Stones are a fairly new band, they show lots of potential with this epic rock anthem. The catchy guitar riff and electrifying vocals will have any rock fan hooked from the first note. This song takes different elements from both modern and classic rock and blends them together, making for an unforgettable listening experience. If you’re a fan of bands like The Black Keys or Royal Blood, The Blue Stones have a very similar sound, so be sure to check this one out.

This song is like having a shoulder to cry on or taking a long breath of fresh air after a tough day. “Vienna” is a forgotten gem that deserves to make a comeback, so be sure to give it a listen.
