Although we get to see St. Dominic’s fantastic performers through the plays and musicals, there are many unsung artists among our student body. Due to limited opportunities at school, these students have chosen to express themselves through various social media platforms like Instagram.

First up is junior Harry Kobitz, who uses his Instagram to share his love for everything art and superhero-related. Although most people are apprehensive about sharing their art, Kobitz has always loved learning from other people’s critiques.

“I love sharing my art, and I was never nervous. I was, and still am, anxious to see what people think. For example, some people love the drawings I hate, and some people hate the ones I love. It’s interesting to see how it all plays out,” said Kobitz.

Kobitz’s knack for drawing began at a young age. Although he has been creating works of art his whole life, he wants to emphasize that his art is strictly a hobby.

“I’ve been drawing ever since I was little. I started out by tracing Curious George books. The thing about hobbies is that nothing makes you stick with it except pleasure. I continue drawing because it never gets old,” said Kobitz.

Although singing videos are not typically considered an “art,” junior Maddie Herbert has used her impressive voice to move and inspire people through her new Instagram account.

Herbert’s passion for singing has been apparent from a young age. Even now, her love for music is obvious from the moment you meet her.

“I began singing in fifth grade when I joined choir. I did this through eighth grade, and I would have solos every now and then at church. After grade school I quit, but I ended up missing it a lot, so that is why I made this account,” said Herbert.

Although her voice is absent from the school musicals, Herbert has used Instagram as a way to overcome her stage fright post by post.

“I felt very nervous because I didn’t know what the reaction would be. I don’t like singing in front of others so this was a big step for me,” said Herbert.

One of Crusader Nation’s own, senior Kaitlyn Bross, has used social media to move her followers with her aesthetically pleasing feed. As soon as you look at her page, the vivid colors and coordinating photos provide simplicity among a disorderly Instagram.

Although her passion for photography began recently, Bross’s skills mirror those of an old pro.

“I got my camera for Christmas, and since then I’ve loved learning how to use it while making things or people look beautiful. I have always loved photography, and now I can actually put my passion for it into action,” said Bross.

As if her stunning photographs weren’t enough, Bross has an inspiring message behind her Instagram account.

“I began my photography account so other people can appreciate how beautiful the world is. I also want to make my friends feel beautiful when I take photos of them. I want them to see the things I love about them in my photos,” said Bross.
