No Experience Needed: Writers Guild
Twice a month, the creative minds of St. Dominic convene in Mr. Margadonna’s room to feast on his famously delicious homemade brownies and fuel their passion for writing.
Writers Guild, led by Mr. Margadonna, is a club where writers can come together to share their work, make collaborative pieces and grow from each other’s example. The club meets every other week and writes pieces together, which are then published on the Writers Guild website for anyone to enjoy.
Members of this club work both individually and as a group to strengthen and improve their writing. They work off of prompts and get to build off each other’s ideas and style.
“Using the prompts helps you to think outside of the box when writing. This can help you when you write short stories and when you want to think of plots. These prompts also promote using sensory or descriptive words to make an action, place or thought feel more realistic,” said junior Joshna Susai.
Although writing can be a solitary hobby, Writers Guild members love hanging out with fellow authors, sharing stories, giving input and building off of each other’s talent.
“I think having other people comment on my writings strengthens me. I also just think the presence of all the other writers strengthens me,” said freshman Emily Baird.
If you are at all interested in joining Writers Guild, the members have some words of advice for you.
“I’d say join! It’s not boring, like… at all. I thought it would be boring but I entered and it was amazing! I’d definitely recommend it,” said Baird.
“You don’t have to be an amazing writer to join. It’s actually a great way to improve your writing by building off of others ideas and challenging yourself to write creatively. If becoming a better writer won’t get people to join, Mr. Margadonna’s crazy good brownies should,” added Susai.
The published works of these members certainly testifies to the collective talent within the club and how they encourage and inspire each other. Check out their writing here! https://stdominicwritersguild.weebly.com
