Touchdowns and Timberlake: Super Bowl LII

For all of you who don’t care about the fumbling faults of Tom Brady and his Super Bowl loss, the halftime show and commercials brought the night to life. From a rockin’ performance by Justin Timberlake to the comedic commercials, your night wasn’t a total bust!

On February 4, the Super Bowl LII Halftime show rocked the nation as Justin Timberlake wowed the crowd with a mix of his new and classic songs, along with a controversial tribute to hometown hero and icon, Prince.

The worldwide phenomenon made the crowd go wild as his extreme dance moves stole the show, thankfully overshadowing his spotty vocals. The journey through the performance was a wild one, as he opened with “Filthy” from his new album.

The concert strummed on, as Justin Timberlake paid a disputable tribute to former Minneapolis resident and music prodigy, Prince. Timberlake played the piano as the surrounding city lit up with purple lights in remembrance of the legend’s song “Purple Rain.”

As the show came to a close, Justin Timberlake ended with his fresh, new classic “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” During the musical masterpiece, a young boy took dozens of selfies with the star, making himself the meme of 2018.

Along with that powerful performance, the commercials made the night worthwhile. Here are the top three commercials of the evening:

Danny DeVito in the M&M commercial

As the red M&M picked a magic penny off the ground, his wish to be human came to life. His quest of asking people if they want to eat him turns sour as he gets hit by a dump truck.

David Harbour for Tide

With several brief commercials, David Harbour, who portrays Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, brought tears to our eyes as he mocked other commercials sponsoring the laundry detergent Tide. With parodies about cars, perfume and Mr. Clean, the Tide Pod epidemic is surely forgotten.

Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.

With “I Had the Time of My Life” playing in the background, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. danced the night away. The iconic lift from Dirty Dancing made the world roar with laughter.

With the amazing halftime show and the crazy commercials, Super Bowl LII was one America won’t forget. It caught the eyes of the viewers, unlike Brady, who couldn’t catch the football.
