New Additions Put Swim Team in Front
The swim team had a stand out season last year thanks to a team packed with talented veterans. This year, they hope to continue a winning tradition with several new dedicated and promising additions.
Last year, the St. Dominic swim team sent six swimmers to compete in state. Senior Sarah Nelson has already qualified for state only two meets into the season. The new swimmers are just as likely to get there as state veterans.
“The new members are willing to learn all the strokes and do whatever it takes. I love their dedication and willingness to compete in any race I put them in,” said Coach Jacquie Moutray.
The returning swimmers all agree with Moutray’s input. With the help of the seasoned seniors, the new swimmers are going to make a huge impact on the team for the better.
“Even though it is early in the season, the new members have had such a strong impact on the team. They work very hard everyday at practice to get better and perfect each of their strokes so they can help the team in every way they can,” said Sarah Nelson.
“I love having new swimmers on the team. I love watching them learn and grow and loves to see them have so much motivation to do anything it takes to win and get to compete. They are always having a blast and cheering each other on, and that is what makes swimming so great. Not having any drama just makes this team so much better and more enjoyable for all of us,” said senior Kristina Green.
Not only are they willing to compete, but they’re willing to create new bonds to increase the teams’ chemistry.
“The team makes her feel like home. All the girls are extremely welcoming and include everyone in everything they do,” said freshman Kate Ryan.
The swim team won the title of conference champs last year, and they are hoping to defend that title in this upcoming season. The team already has two events going to state and is bound to have many more. The team has home meets at the St. Peters’s Rec Plex and would love to have a big crowd for support. Their next home meet is Monday, December 18. Stop by and watch the St. Dominic swim team dive into an amazing season!
