All Aboard the Orient Express

After rolling into theaters on November 10, 2017, Murder on the Orient Express earned a spot underneath the Christmas tree for mystery lovers this year.

The book-to-movie adaptation, set in 1943, follows the Sherlock Holmes-esque detective Hercule Poirot. After helping arrest a jewel thief for the locals of Istanbul, Poirot receives a telegram to return to London to investigate. He turns to his colleague, Bouc, for a last minute ride aboard the Orient Express—on his way to be consumed by crime.

Beyond the plot of the story were the talented actors that attracted the attention of fans from all genres of movies. Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, Johnny Depp as Edward Ratchett and Daisy Ridley as Miss Mary Debenham are just a few of the well-known faces within this movie. The actors were casted perfectly and brought life to the mysterious characters.

There was much to admire from the 1940s ambiance to the variety of camera angles. The mystery engaged the audience who was looking for clues alongside Poirot! Although the actors were phenomenal, it was hard to keep up with the complicated backstories. There was also an excessive amount of characters to follow. Though they all played an important role, it was hard to keep their backstories and where they were going straight.

Murder on the Orient Express is great for those who enjoy mysteries and want to face the same challenge as Poirot. If you’re in for a great film, head to the theaters this weekend to see Murder on the Orient Express.
