Why Not Us: Volleyball Takes On State

St. Dominic’s girl’s volleyball is heading down to Cape Girardeau to play in the Class 4 state tournament this weekend. After an incredible win over Timberland on October 21, these girls are more than ready to ace their state competition.

If you have seen these girls play, you know that their enthusiasm and will-power make them the best team on the court. Making it to state just proves that our volleyball ladies can do it all.

“Honestly the most hype part of going to state is the feeling of accomplishment. A lot of people didn’t even consider us in the running for state, but we used that as our motivation. I love my teammates so much and we have worked so hard to get to this point,” said senior Lexi Burkemper.

The volleyball team is a family. Whether they are on the court destroying the competition or hanging out in the locker room, the bond these ladies have is what takes them so far.

“This team is so special, and I believe it is because of our team chemistry. We hang out together all the time, not because of volleyball, but solely because we are all 11 best friends. I think that our comradery really truly shows on the court and is the reason that we are doing so well. The bond we have is something that no other team has and is a bond that no loss could break,” said senior Kelly Sitz.

You can see these girls in action against St. Teresa’s Academy at 3:00, St. Joseph’s Academy at 5:00 and Ozark High School at 7:00. The volleyball team will be leaving it all out on the court, and want you there!

“This is the first time we’ve gone to State since 2008, so we are super excited to play hard and have fun with each other because this experience is like a once in a lifetime chance for us,” said junior Lindsay Woltering.

They will play at either 3:00 or 4:30 on Saturday, October 28. If they are playing for third or fourth place, they face off at 3:00. Hopefully, they will be playing at 4:30 in the state championship; all of St. Dominic should drive down to Cape Girardeau to see these girls tear it up on the court.

Win or lose, this team is family. Making it to the final four is a huge accomplishment, but these girls plan on bringing their success even further.

“The biggest blessing volleyball has brought me this year is the girls. We are all very close and have great team chemistry, which has taken us so far already this year, but will take us even further!” said junior Allie Otten.

The St. Dominic girls volleyball team needs all of St. Dominic’s support to win the state trophy. In the face of adversity, these ladies have shown they will dominate. After all, why not us?
