Movie Magic of Halloween

The changing of the leaves means the arrival of the best holiday: Halloween. It means candy, costumes and most importantly, halloween movies. As children, we waited all year to enjoy Halloween classics, but as we’ve grown older, we’ve forgotten the magic these tales bring. It is hard to remember the best movies of our childhood, so here is a list of the top five Halloween classics you should watch on October 31.

Hocus Pocus:
Hocus Pocus is as classic as it gets. Max and Dani Dennison expect nothing extraordinary from their move to Salem, Massachusetts. They don’t even expect anything special when they explore an abandoned house with their new neighbor, Vanessa Shaw. Their neighbor, Allison, tries to warn them about the dangers of the house, but the city kids brush it off as a silly ghost story. Max accidentally sets a coven of witches free and must steal their book of spells to trap them. This story pulls viewers into an adventure of love, laughs and drama. Be sure to watch this Halloween classic before the season is over.

Twitches:
You’re lying if you say you don’t like Disney movies. Halloween changed forever when Disney released the movie, Twitches. Camryn and Alex are twins, who were separated at birth. The two are polar opposites, but they have no idea how similar they really are. While Camryn is out shopping and Alex is on the hunt for a new job, they run into each other and are hit with the surprise of a lifetime. The two girls realize that they are more than strangers—they’re sisters. More than that, they are witches who were hidden to be protected from “The Darkness.” They must now work together to discover their powers and save the magical world they were born in. This movie is sure to bring you back to the simpler Disney days of Lizzie McGuire and Cadet Kelly, with a special Halloween twist.

Halloweentown:
We have all heard the terrifying and twisted stories of the monsters that haunt halloween, but what if they aren’t as evil as we think? In Halloweentown, Marnie Piper dreams of trick-or-treating. Her mother locks her and her two siblings in their house every Halloween in an attempt to protect them, but her reason is unknown to Marnie and her siblings. The Piper kids soon discover the real reason Halloween is outlawed—they are witches. One night, their Grandma whisks them away to the magical world of Halloweentown where monsters, ghouls and witches thrive.

Scary Godmother:
One of the best Halloween masterpiece to ever grace TV is Scary Godmother. While the animation quality may be questionable, the plot, story and humor surpasses the characters’ beady eyes and unnatural body movements. Hannah Marie is eager to go trick-or-treating for the first time, but her spoiled cousin, Jimmy, is less than excited to take her. Jimmy plans to scare Hannah Marie so that he can go off on his own. Jimmy’s plan is almost successful, but at the last moment, Hannah Marie’s Scary Godmother swoops in to save her from danger. Scary Godmother takes her to the realm of “Fright Side,” where Hannah Marie meets a group of quirky characters.

The Nightmare Before Christmas:
Life in Halloween Town in The Nightmare Before Christmas seems bliss. Every creepy, scary and spooky creature lives together in peace and terror. They wait every year for the holidays of all holidays—Halloween. Jack, who is the Mayor and Pumpkin King, begins planning for Halloween 364 days in advance. This world may seem like magic, but Jack’s life is missing something. He is growing tired of Halloween. Jack finds what he is missing when he stumbles upon the door to Christmas Town. He is swept into the magic of the holiday and discovers the reason for the season. This movie is filled with incredible animation, characters and songs to keep people of all ages glued to the screen.

This Halloween season, ditch the demented clowns and haunted mansions for some feel good, sentimental classics. Grab the candy and a group of your favorite people, because you don’t have to scream for it to be a good Halloween.
