Crusader Soccer Kicking It Up A Notch
The boy’s soccer team is off to a solid 11-4 start after defeating Francis Howell North 2-1 last night. The Crusaders are beginning to look like a top contender for the state championship.
St. Dominic is a team that is synonymous with state championships. This year’s team is looking to bring the state title back home, and they certainly have the confidence and dedication to do so.
“Our ultimate goal is to win sate title and I believe we have the talent to achieve that goal,” said senior Max Sengl.
This years roster is loaded with talent that includes experienced seniors as well as some promising new freshmen.
“The key to our early success has been our work ethic and our speed which allows us to counteract teams effectively,” said senior Collin Chrun.
“Our biggest strengths are our collectiveness and our ability to create a lot of chances to score goals. We work really well together as a team and we are always honest with each other, which helps us all get better,” said senior Collin McDonough.
This season is especially important to the seniors. After dedicating themselves to the sport for the past four years, they are determined to make their final season one to remember and leave their mark.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling knowing that this is our last year at Dominic. All the guys on the team are winners and its very important to all of us that we are successful because we hate to lose. We are all working really hard and are really dedicated to win state this year, because it would be really special to win state our senior year. It would mean a lot to go down in St. Dominic’s history as a team who won state, and to get a banner with all of our names on it hung up in the gym,” said McDonough.
“It is very important to me to have a successful last season, because I want to get back the sate final. There is no other atmosphere like it and I want it back,” said Sengl.
Though the Crusaders have their sights set on the state title, they still have a long way to go. If they keep up this early success, they are sure to make waves in the postseason. The Crusaders will take on Chaminade at home next Tuesday.
