Football Kicks Off at St. Dominic
The St. Dominic Crusaders football team opened the 2017 season with a bang. Coming off last year’s impressive 8-1 season, the team has some big shoes to fill.
They dominated both defensively and offensively in their first game, shutting out John Burroughs 23-0 on August 18. Unfortunately, the Crusaders came up short against Westminster on August 25, losing 21-0 to the Wildcats.
There are a lot of new faces stepping into the spotlight, ready to make this a great season. The players and coaching staff plan to keep up their confidence and persistence throughout the season to carry the team.
“We definitely spend more time on defense than we do offense in practice, and that’s the pride of our program. My background is defense and our defensive coordinator does a great job so we definitely try to make that the priority,” said Coach Blake Markway.
Whether they win or lose, fans can expect the Crusaders to play their hearts out each game. With a passionate coach and roaster full of dedicated players, there’s no telling what this team is capable of.
“On the outside, everybody’s written us off, but inside the team, everyone is using that for motivation,” said Coach Markway.
The Crusaders will take on the Eagles tonight at Liberty. Be sure to come out and show your support for the football boys!
