Wishing Mr. Welby Well
Mr. Jim Welby is a name all Crusaders have come to know and love. For five years, he has worked as our loyal Athletic Director here at St. Dominic. Whether you played a fall, winter or spring sport, this man worked hard to make it happen.
Mr. Welby loves his job and the community here at St. Dominic. His passion for the students and athletics is present everyday. He is sad to leave, and we are sad to see him go.
“I love St. Dominic and the people here. I think the athletic program here has always been successful because of our athletes, and I think our success will continue in great levels because of the athletes at this school. For me, it was just a pleasure to work with you all,” said Mr. Welby.
Mr. Welby is always quick to tweet out the latest score and never neglects to congratulate us on our accomplishments. In fact, two years ago he set a St. Dominic Twitter record for 1,000 tweets from the @sdhsathletics Twitter account. Every student who knows Mr. Welby loves him and his dedication to St. Dominic athletics.
“I can always count on him for a high-five and a laugh! He is one of the most dedicated people I know and I am so thankful for all the hard work he does for us,” said junior athlete Riley Leutkenhaus.
Whether he is driving in a golf cart around the track or announcing scores from the booth, Mr. Welby is thoroughly involved in all aspects of St. Dominic sports.
“Mr. Welby attends every event he can, no matter what sport, and always does it with a smile on his face. I’ve known Mr. Welby for a long time and have learned he’s definitely a great athletic director, but an even better person. He cares about every person he comes across and wants to personally get to know them,” said freshman Alyssa Buchheit.
Mr. Welby has made a lasting impression on all of us here at St. Dominic, including parents and spectators. Though he is leaving, the Welby family legacy will live on in a new generation.
“I’m excited to have my daughter here to be a part of this school and community,” said Mr. Welby.
Mr. Welby’s enthusiasm and devotion will make him dearly missed by the entire St. Dominic community. We wish him well this next year as he continues his career at Parkway North. If you see Mr. Welby, thank him for all the service he has done for St. Dominic. Once a Crusader, always a Crusader.
