“Prompare”

"Prompare"

Prom might be 23 days away, but prom preparation is in full swing. The magical prom transformation doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes a lot of time and planning.

The senior girls are prom veterans. They have learned from their mistakes and are prepared to tackle prom the right way. Appointments have been booked, dresses have been purchased and alterations have been made. Senior Lauren Basse made sure to avoid the “who wore it better” dilemma by creating a Facebook group for the senior girls in February.

“I started the group on Facebook because it’s a fun way to see everyone’s dresses. I also think it is helpful when picking out your own dress because you can see what style most people are going with,” said Basse.

I think I can speak on behalf of all of the senior girls when I say that Basse’s idea was a great one. The majority of the senior girls have already found their dresses and each one is unique. Unfortunately, some of the junior girls are not having as much luck. They are experiencing prom for the first time and definitely making a lot of memories.

Junior Sidney Thorpe in her dress

Junior Sidney Thorpe tried to avoid some tears and turmoil by ordering her dress in January from Boulevard Bridal. However, the dress did not come until the end of March.

“I was freaking out because my dress was not coming in and when it finally came it did not even fit. I had to take the dress to a different place and get it altered. It was just stressful,” said Thorpe.

Luckily, for junior Meredith Drummond the stress of finding the best dresses fell on someone else: her dad. Drummond’s dad attended a fashion show to help her pick the right dress. He is truly “dad of the year.”

“My dad went to a fashion show out of town to look for prom dresses. He is probably the only guy who would do this. I had to call him and FaceTime him the whole time to pick the ones I liked. He had models and designers helping him pick out dresses, but I did not end up liking any of them,” said Drummond.

Drummond eventually went dress shopping with her friend and found a two-piece dress that she loved. When she showed it to her grandfather, he told her that her dress had a hole in it.

Whether it is a dress coming in late or a funny comment from grandpa, almost every girl has had a prom problem. As school is coming closer to an end, prom is drawing near.  So remember, it is never too early to prompare.
