On a Mission to Make A Difference
The St. Dominic community is coming together this week to support great causes for our annual Mission Week. The generous students and faculty of St. Dominic are sure to make this year’s Mission Week a success.
Outreach Club, Veri De and CRU teamed up to organize this year’s events. Penny wars, the annual competition to see which grade can gather up the most pennies, has returned. Make sure to search your cars and couch cushions for spare pennies so your grade can come out on top. Don’t have any pennies? No worries, dollars bills count for negative points, so be sure to put them in a different grade’s bin. The grade with the most pennies at the end of the week will receive dress down passes.
All proceeds from the Mission Week t-shirt sales and penny wars are going to Birthright, which is an organization that helps women with unplanned pregnancies. There is also a book drive this week for the Crisis Center Nursery. Both new books and slightly used children’s books are accepted. Whoever brings in the most books between the boys and the girls will also win a dress down pass.
The theme of this year’s Mission week is “Pro-Life.” The donations from Mission Week are going to some amazing pro-life charities in the area. Crisis Nursery provides care for children who cannot receive the proper care at home, whether it be due to neglect, abuse or any other domestic disputes. Crisis Nursery also offers counseling and support for families going through a crisis. Birthright, another great cause, offers judgment free counseling and support for women with unplanned pregnancies. Both organizations support very important causes and the donations from Mission Week are sure to help make our community a better place.
Mission Week is a meaningful event for everyone involved. Senior and president of Outreach Club Brain Niehaus, has been involved with Mission Week since his freshman year.
“Mission Week is meaningful to me because I love Outreach. I’ve been doing it forever. It’s a big part of who I am. It’s nice because it benefits a great charity that helps kids in need,” said Niehaus.
Mission Week is a great opportunity for the students and faculty of St. Dominic to get involved and make a difference in their community. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a big impact and is greatly appreciated.
