Demerath Sets High Expectations at 6’6″
With every new season comes new expectations. Senior Dominic Demerath has already exceeded expectations in the first track and field meet of the season on March 18, breaking the school record by clearing 6’6″ in the high jump event.
Demerath played Crusader football the past four years, and ran track the past two years. Last year, Demerath tied with senior Clayton Arnold for a new school record, both reaching 6’4″ in the high jump. In his off season between football and track, Demerath has been pushing himself to achieve a new goal.
“To be able to reach such an accomplishment this early on in the season is a blessing. It is so humbling to have the support I have had in all my athletics here at St. Dominic the past four years,” said Demerath.
On February 1, Demerath signed his letter of intent, committing to Missouri Baptist University as both a football and track and field athlete. The amount of hard work and talent he has put in for his accomplishments as an SDHS athlete will drive him to do great things at the collegiate level.
“It has been a privilege to coach Dominic the last three years in both sports. In 15 years coaching varsity athletics, few have developed as much as he has as a leader over their career in such a positive way,” said Coach Blake Markway.
Considering his record-breaking achievements at the first track meet of the year, we are sure to see Demerath continue to dominate in his senior track season. Make sure to come support Demerath and the SDHS track and field teams as they compete in their next meet on April 11 in the Orchard Farm Invitational.
