What Is Really Dividing Our Country
Racial divides, email controversy and travel bans are prominent issues facing our world today. While caught up in the hustle and bustle of CNN, America fails to see what is really dividing our country. Pineapple on pizza, ketchup and cats vs. dogs are ripping society apart in a way that even generations to come may not be able to mend.
Different cultures season and zest up their meals in different ways, but ketchup and pineapple on certain foods causes controversy, even between the closest of people.
“They’re beautiful eggs and [my family] just coats them in ketchup: wrong. For me to eat ketchup on eggs I would have to lose my ability to taste,” said secretary Mrs. Ania Wyant.
“My significant other eats pineapple on his pizza. It has traumatized me. How could someone do something so disgusting? I’m just your simple cheese type of gal. Pineapple is ridiculous, honestly it almost broke us up,” said senior Emily Schaefer.
Not only is there divides in food choices, but also in fashion.
“Leggings are not and will never be pants. I hate when girls or guys wear them as pants. Yes, I would wear leggings as pants for a good chunk of money, but I would hate it,” said campus minister Mr. Andrew Struttmann.
And that’s not all. Aside from food and fashion, there are also dangerous disagreements when it comes to our furry friends.
“The dog vs. cat controversy has put up barriers where we should be building bridges,” said junior Theodore Pardee.
But, what have all these disagreements really caused? Would we be a different country if these petty arguments weren’t separating us? More than just the dog versus cat controversy, but all differences.
Instead of pilling over these petty issues, America needs to come together. There are two types of people, and they are dividing our country. They forget that we are one nation, under dogs, indivisible, with eggs and ketchup for all.
