Stepping Onto the Diamond

St. Dominic baseball this season is set to take a big step in 2017. They have high aspirations and believe they can achieve their goals after an upset in districts last season. With a senior-heavy roster and a bit of great young talent, the team knows this is a whole new season.

This years team is full of leaders and the team chemistry will be at an all-time high for the ball club.

“I figured the seniors would step up to the plate and they’ve done a fantastic job so far. As far as leadership, I think we are further along than what we were last year at this time,” said Coach Frank Schlenke.

Coach Schlenke has lead the baseball program for years so he is serious when he believes this team has the pure firepower to have a flaming season. He believes the boys have the talent to surpass the success of last year’s team. With a tough loss in districts last year, Coach Schlenke has set the bar for his experienced team.

“I think this team is especially up to the task because we have 12 seniors and we are a very experienced team. We have a couple bright sophomores and talented juniors as well. I think we definitely have a shot of making it out of districts this year,” said

The pitching staff is the backbone of the baseball program with future college athletes Cole Birke and Alex Hoff leading the charge. The team has a lot of pitchers to conserve arms for the late half of the season, which they hope they can use to their advantage when it comes time for districts.

“I think we have a well developed pitching Core and that it will help us do big things this year,” said senior pitcher Kyle Goggins.

We have faith in our baseball program and hope they start off the year right with a win at home against Warrenton on March 17.
