Right on Track
The starting pistol has fired for both boy’s and girl’s track and field as they sprint into their 2017 season. It’s not just their team chemistry but these athletes also know there is no “I” in track.
It’s the faith of our students, both in God and in each other, that makes the track team one of a kind.
“As with anything, our Catholic identity sets us apart from other track programs. The sport, as it is, has a lot of individual events, so it would be easy to only worry about yourself. I’ve never seen that from any of these athletes; they’re each other’s biggest supporters, no matter what event,” said Coach Adam Kuebler.
Chemistry and a close bond is essential in relays and other group events. Both athletes and coaches say that the closeness of the group goes far beyond that. From bonding after practice to sharing the adrenaline rush of meet days, the St. Dominic track and field program is a team through and through.
“I want to break the school record and I know it’s my teammates pushing me that’s going to get me there. It’s definitely the team aspect that gives St. Dominic an edge. My main goal this year is really just to get close to my teammates, from the freshmen to my fellow seniors. I want to make the most of this last year and really lead by example,” said senior Gabi Gevers.
It is their bond, added to their outstanding leadership that makes Crusader track and field one to watch.
“We have a lot of heart and no matter what we always have fun. And we know we may not always be the fastest, but that’s not stopping us from giving it all we got,” said junior Nathan Mueller.
The team starts their season March 18 at home. Come out and support your Crusader track and field team!
