Closing of Club Penguin

When the news broke that the beloved 2000s website, Club Penguin, is closing in March, nostalgic teenagers were heartbroken. After a major decline in users from 200 million in 2013 to six million in 2016, the website is shutting down. However, the virtual world will not be gone for long; in March, Disney will be launching a new mobile app called Club Penguin Island to replace the former website. The app will maintain the basic layout and goals of Club Penguin, but it will better relate to the technology generation. Like Club Penguin, Island will feature games to earn money for your penguin avatar and locations to travel to, with new additions like daily challenges and emojis. As Club Penguin closes and Island opens, it is a bittersweet goodbye to over a decade of endless fun.
