Congratulations! It’s a Grammy
The 2017 Grammys was full of memorable moments and unforgettable tributes to legends of the music industry including the Bee Gees and Prince. Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper and Adele were the stars of the night, winning awards and performing live.
Beyoncé’s performance of her songs “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” was a beautiful tribute to motherhood as she wore an outfit exposing her very pregnant belly. Beyoncé left the Grammys with another set of twins: best urban contemporary album and best music video. Well, actually, make that two and a half awards. Adele pulled a Cady Heron from Mean Girls and split her Grammy in half. Adele believed that Beyoncé deserved the award for best album more than she did, so she broke it into pieces during her speech.
Adele did not need that extra half Grammy because she won four more awards for best song of the year, best record of the year, best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album. Adele did more than just say “Hello” at the Grammys. She performed a tribute to George Michael, singing “Fastlove.” However, her performance was not fast at all. Adele started over after swearing during the performance. She wanted to make the performance perfect for Michael and she could not leave it on that note.
The night included two more tributes to musical geniuses. Demi Lovato, Tori Kelly, Little Big Town and Andra Day performed a disco tribute to the Bee Gees. Bruno Mars’ tribute of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” really made the crowd go wild. Mars’ performance captured the essence of Prince, sporting a purple suit and eye makeup. The tributes at the Grammys were unforgettable, just like the artists they recognized.
Last but certainly not least, Chance the Rapper stole the show. Chance won best new artist of the year and best rap album, beating out Drake, Kanye and The Chainsmokers. Chance’s story is an inspiring one and so was his performance at the Grammys. Chance performed with a gospel choir singing “All We Got” and “How Great is Our God,” proving that his fame was not by chance. God has such an influence in his life and he proved that in his Grammy performance.
Overall, the Grammys had some technical difficulties and some mishaps, but many unforgettable moments. The Grammys celebrated motherhood, racial equality and those who have gone before us. We cannot wait to see what the musical industry has in store this coming year.
