Battle for the Bowl
The New vs. The Old… The Rookies vs. The Veterans… The Falcons vs. The Patriots will face off this Sunday, February 5, in Houston for Super Bowl LI. It will be a battle of two high octane offenses led by quarterbacks, Tom Brady and Matt Ryan.
The new kids on the block, the Atlanta Falcons, have only been to the Super Bowl one time in the franchise’s career where it ended in a devastating loss. However, this year has been one to remember as the Falcons have overcome great feats with the number one ranked offense in the entire NFL. Led by wide receiver Julio Jones and MVP candidate Matt Ryan under center, the Falcons boast an 11-5 record in the regular season, their best record since 2012. The team may have the best offense in the NFL, but their defense has a lot missing. They may be extremely fast, but they are small and may struggle to stop the run this Sunday against the Patriots.
The New England Patriots have seen it all before. This is quarterback Tom Brady’s and Coach Bill Belichick’s seventh time competing in a Super Bowl together with a record of 4-2. The Patriots have a winning culture, reaching 11 straight AFC championships. The team has an extremely high-powered offense like the Falcons, but are lead by Hall of Famer Tom Brady. However, New England will play without their main weapon, tight end Rob Gronkowski, as he was hurt earlier this season. The Patriots will look to ride off of Chris Hogan in the passing game, who had a franchise record in receiving yards in a playoff game against the Pittsburg Steelers. They will also have to rely on the power run game due to the Falcons’ speed, yet small size on defense. The Falcons will be looking to attack New England in the air because of the Patriots’ weak pass rush and the fact they have the best receiver in the league, Julio Jones.
This Super Bowl should be one to remember with a lot on the line for both teams. If the Falcons win, they could be considered one of the best offenses in NFL history, while also bringing them their second championship in the city’s history. The Patriots have Brady’s and Belichick’s legacy on the line. One final Super Bowl will legitimize the argument for the duo being the best of all time, as well as bring revenge for a controversial suspension this past year on Brady. Look for an exciting Super Bowl this Sunday, February 5, at 6:30 p.m. between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
