New Day, New Me?
Along with January 1 comes promises intended to be kept during the coming year. The New Year pressures people into creating absurd resolutions that they plan on fulfilling the whole year long. Society prompts people of all ages to make these promises for the new year.
“New year’s resolutions are more of a societal view rather than a personal view. People have the mindset that when New Year’s comes around, everyone has to have a New Year’s Resolution in order to fit in,” said senior Madeline Mueller.
Men and women throughout the world promise to better themselves during the new year by promising to go to the gym, eat healthier and make better choices. What makes one day of the year more special over another? You can work on being a better person any day of the year. This promise to better yourself should be a lifestyle rather than a promise that you make just because it’s what everyone else is doing.
“I think that if you are going to make a resolution you shouldn’t wait ‘till the new year to do it. Don’t push it off ’till the new year, start today,” said senior Bradley Sievers.
Anyone can fulfill their dreams if they are determined enough! If one is fully committed to bettering themselves, they can achieve their goals any of the 365 days of the year. People need to realize that change is an ongoing lifestyle, not a huge commitment that will happen just because it is a new year.
