It’s almost the season for evergreens and candy canes; however, there is a new twist on this year’s winter theatre production. For the first time, St. Dominic is performing a girl-power story of A Christmas Carol, with a gender-swapped cast in a modern day setting. This new take on an old tale will jingle the bells of the student body.

Director Mrs. Melfreya Findley has three weeks to put this show together and make it ready for the stage. With a phenomenal cast and a dedicated crew, the show is sure to be successful. There are only fourteen rehearsals until tech week, so the cast and crew will have to put their all into preparation.

“Putting together an entire show is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work from a lot of different people. Normally, we have more time to pull everything together, but I know that if we all work as a team and put everything we’ve got into it, this show can be just as amazing as anything else from St. Dominic,” said junior cast member Kaitlyn Pepper.

New faces are fresh on the scene for this version of A Christmas Carol. There are 44 elementary students in the cast, and 37 high schoolers. Sophomore Grace Wallis is playing the role of senile and elderly Ebbie Holywell, who is considered the parallel to Ebeneezer Scrooge. She is excited and prepared to take on this challenging lead role.

“Having a chance to be the lead of a show is an incredibly exciting experience. I can’t wait to begin rehearsals with our amazing cast and crew, which includes high schoolers, elementary students and teachers. This show is a brand new version of the classic that is Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and we are all so excited to be able to bring this to the stage,” said Wallis.

Another new face is freshman Delaney Whede, who is about to take the spotlight for the first time as a store manager named Bobbie. This new scene is set in a quaint village similar to old town St. Charles.

“I’m so excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this show with such an amazing group of people! It’s coming up so soon and it should be a really good show,” said Whede.

Show dates are December 2 and 3 at 7:00 PM and December 4 at 3:00 PM. The cast will also perform a matinee on Thursday, December 1, for local grade schools. Students, make sure to save the date to see St. Dominic’s A Christmas Carol!
