Crusader Crazy

The varsity football team is in the middle of an undefeated season. Surprisingly, their biggest fans are not their moms this year! St. Dominic High School has an outbreak of school spirit, and it is definitely contagious. The thrill of winning the game is addicting and once you catch the Crusader pride fever, you cannot be cured.

The senior class of 2017 has really stepped it up this year, both figuratively and literally. The “Front Row Fans” have become the “First Five Rows of Fans.” The seniors have packed the stands forcing everyone to constantly “move up.” The underclassmen have been forced to break out their binoculars and frequently check their Twitter feeds in order to catch a glimpse of the game. However, senior Lauren Basse does not want anyone to miss out on the excitement of the game. Basse is using her GoPro at every Friday night game to capture all of the energy in the student section.

“I love capturing every moment from the students’ perspective, especially since our student section is full of energy and enthusiasm. I started thinking about how this is our last season and how cool it would be if we could remember it. So, I called my mom and had her bring my GoPro and the rest is history,” said Basse.

Basse was not the only one to capture the homecoming game on camera. The KSDK “Prep Rally” crew filmed the pre-game pump-up live at five o’clock. The fans broke out their flannels and jorts to give KSDK a glimpse of the Hillbilly Hoedown. Unfortunately, KSDK missed out on the slaughter that took place at seven. The St. Dominic Crusaders brutally slayed the St. Mary’s Dragons 51-13 at the homecoming game. Senior Drew Blechle proudly sported the superfan jacket as he riled up the student section for another victory. The Crusaders have definitely gained some self-confidence with cheers like, “Thanks for practice!” and “When’s the real game?” becoming the norm. Senior Lindsey Peters held up a sign saying, “Your mom called…you left your game at home.” Football stars Dominic Demerath, Jake Jones, Chris Fleming, Jake Larson and Alex Hoff proved the Crusaders always bring their game when they all reached the end zone on this epic night.

St. Dominic truly had a night of “no regrets.” The football team kept their undefeated streak, the cheerleaders and the dancers performed a flawless halftime routine and the fans kept the energy even through the rain. SDHS proved we are the best in the west.
