Tennis is a sport where being a team means more than just the chemistry on the court. Although tennis matches can often be played individually, the St. Dominic tennis ladies have taken the word “teammates” to a new level.

Coach Kevan Morshed led the girls to an outstanding 12-1 season. The team won first place in the AAA Conference tournament, as well as clinching the conference championship. The entire team made it to the semi-final district tournament individually, with junior Abby West winning the individual district title and teammates Kristina Green and Audrianna Hebron also taking first place in district doubles.

The team is a support system and the girls have bonded over their successes. Some bonds, however, are closer than others. Two pairs of sisters make up the tennis team this year: Kristina Green and her sister Sarah Green, along with the Fleming sisters Caitlin and Meaghan.

When Kristina won the district doubles, her younger sister was there cheering her on. Sarah looks up to and enjoys playing the sport with her sister.

“It has been a great experience learning from my sister and having a person to look up to. I have watched her grow through the season and she has helped me grow as a player too. I love seeing her win because it does not just make her happy, it makes me happy too,” said Sarah.

Caitlin also loves having her sister as a teammate, making the tennis season for the Fleming sisters even more special.

“We were doubles partners for the majority of the season, and we found out that we actually work very well together. We won every league game! The work we put into the season helped us to grow closer on and off the court, and we were able to push each other to try our very best, while still having a lot of fun. The game definitely became more meaningful to me because it became an opportunity for me to influence my younger sister to work hard not only in tennis, but in every aspect of life,” said Caitlin.

Having siblings on the same team definitely creates a family aspect for the tennis ladies. The team won districts and everyone is headed into sectionals this upcoming weekend. Congratulations to Kristina Green, Audrianna Hebron and Abby West on their advancement to state and good luck to the whole tennis team as they head into sectionals!
