Sparkle Gives All Kids a Chance to Shine
Sometimes even the simplest of ideas can make a big difference in people’s lives, which is exactly what Crusader Sparkle is doing. This new addition to the St. Dominic community is a cheerleading squad coordinated by our students for children in the community with developmental disabilities.
St. Dominic senior and leader of Crusader Sparkle Jordyn Hardy was inspired last year to find a way to make a difference in the community.
Being a cheerleader, Hardy decided to use her talents for something more. This squad is not only changing the lives of children in our community, but it is also leaving a lasting impact on St. Dominic students.
“They have opened my eyes to be more grateful for the life I have today. They teach me so much about being happy with what I have. I just feel so blessed to have been able to know them. They are too great to put into words,” said Hardy.
Starting a new group from the ground up has its challenges. When Sparkle was first being organized, they had difficulties finding enough participants to make up the squad. Nevertheless, the leaders persevered and were thrilled with the outcome.
“The group that we had perform was smaller than we had anticipated, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. They are an awesome group of kids, and I am so happy that they were the ones to start out our first year,” said Hardy.
At the home football game against St. Francis Borgia, the Crusader Sparkle squad performed at halftime. They had the opportunity to show the St. Dominic community all of their hard work.
“My favorite part of Sparkle was seeing how happy it made the kids, especially at the football game when they were performing. Listening to the students’ section cheer for them was awesome, and seeing the smiles on their faces was just so amazing to see,” said Hardy.
We are so proud of the Crusader community for beginning this impactful organization. If you did not have the chance to get involved in Crusader Sparkle this year, make sure to sign up next year for a life-changing experience for yourself and others!
