The Playoff Push

With all of the spring sports concluding their great seasons, the district playoffs are now finishing up. The athletes have put in hours of work and are hoping to push toward the state championship. Girls soccer, track, girls lacrosse, boys tennis, boys golf, baseball and boys volleyball are all looking forward to showing competitors what St. Dominic has to offer.

The track team’s district was hosted at Westminster High School. Athletes put their best foot forward for their races, jumps and throws. Juniors Dominic Demerath and Clayton Arnold will advance to sectionals for high jump and Gabi Gevers will run the 100m dash.

The boys tennis team won their district tournament. Freshman Nate Heiligenstein won the final district match in three sets. Coach Duncan is very proud of his team as they look to surge even farther into the playoffs.

Girls soccer is set to have another successful season. The Lady Crusaders traveled to Hannibal High School to take on Warrenton High. Our team dominated the game and crushed Warrenton with a score of 10-0. The girls will advance to the district finals and take on Hannibal.

Girls lacrosse played their district game on May 12 and 14.The Lady Crusaders defeated Francis Howell High in the first district game with a score of 18-7. They advanced to the district finals at Mizzou where they played St.Teresa’s, but fell short with a score of 15-4.

The baseball team had an exciting season with victories over Borgia, Duchesne and St.Mary’s. In districts, St. Dominic took down a strong Warrenton team with a score of 8-4. The Crusader’s season was sadly cut short due to a loss of 6-11 to Winfield.

The boys’ volleyball team defeated a strong Bayless team in the district tournament on May 14. Sadly, they fell short in their other games. They lost to St.Mary’s ranked second in the state, and to Duchesne. The Duchesne game was frustrating for the players as they beat them three times in the regular season. The boys played an extremely competitive game against Fort Zumwalt North which ended the volleyball season.

The boys’ golf district was hosted at Forest Park this year. It was regarded as the hardest district in Class Three. The cut was a score of 83, and St. Dominic’s Joey Herget advanced to state. At state, Herget shot an 86, but to dismay of the golfers, the last 18 holes were cancelled.

Districts were an exciting time for the athletes of St.Dominic. Make sure to support SDHS athletes in their upcoming postseason matchups!
