A Night to Remember

Seniors pose for a group picture at Old Hickory for their last prom.

Prom was a night the students of St. Dominic High School will never forget. The juniors and seniors enjoyed every aspect of the evening. From the lights of the dance floor to the glittering jewels on the prom queen’s crown, it was fitting to call this year’s prom a “Night Under the Lights.”

The venue for the night was the Old Hickory Golf Club located in St. Peters. After taking photographs on the beautiful grounds of the club, students were treated to a dinner of sirloin and chicken, followed by a chocolate dessert. If the dinner didn’t make the night perfect, then the DJ certainly did the job. With classics like “Shout” by the Isley Brothers, to new songs like “My House” by Flo Rida, to slow songs like “Lose You” by Meghan Trainor, the song variety made it easy for both the seniors and juniors to dance the night away.

“This has been a really fun prom. I think that the DJ has been good, the food was really good and everyone just looks beautiful,” said senior Anna Hermann.

“It’s pretty fun; the dancing is really fun with everyone out there. I wish we could have started earlier,” said junior Jacob Luebbers.

Coronation this year was announced by juniors Emma Siemen and Collin Baker. The Master and Mistress crowned seniors Zach Grasso and Madeleine Vandervort as this year’s prom King and Queen. The couple were humbled by the honor and proud to share the court with the other three couples: Kevin Schoonover and Ashna Mahadev, Lucas Provine and Meg Deters and Dominic Candela and Chelsea Hazell.

“I was very honored. It is a really overwhelming feeling having people vote for you. And the prom court was just outstanding. Everyone up there was just kind, caring people. It wasn’t a popularity contest. It was just a really honorable thing because many people don’t get to say that they were on prom court period, and to be prom King and Queen, I just think is really cool,” said Grasso.

Prom of 2016 was a huge success. For the juniors, it set the bar high for next year’s prom. For the seniors, it was the perfect way to end their final year at St. Dominic High School.
