The Story That Lives
Harry Potter. Even if you haven’t seen the movies or read the books, your mind automatically thinks of the young wizard with jet black hair, the flying broomsticks, the wands, the castle and, of course, the magic. Author J.K. Rowling created a wizarding world that every person knows about. The boy who lived under the stairs of 4 Privet Dr., who survived all three Unforgivable Curses and defeated Voldemort, has cast a spell on the Muggle (non-wizard) world. Many believed that the story of Harry Potter officially ended in 2011 when the last movie was released, but Rowling, as always, did not disappoint her fans when she announced that on November 18, 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will come to theaters.
This film, the first installment of a trilogy, is inspired by the Harry Potter series, but will not include the actors that we have grown to love over the years. Instead, the film is a prequel and will feature actors such as Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston and Ezra Miller. Rowling wrote the script herself, basing it off of the Hogwarts school book that was originally seen in Harry Potter.
The movie is about a young man, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who has a magical briefcase that houses many dangerous creatures. When the creatures escape, American wizarding authorities chase after Scamander all around New York, an already dangerous place for witches and wizards due to the extremist organization that works to eradicate all magical people. As Scamander fights to correct mistakes that could change the world forever, tension between the wizard and muggle world is higher than ever. As if this film isn’t exciting enough, Rowling will release yet another addition to the series.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will come to the world in a way that Harry Potter fans have never seen before. This new edition to the Harry Potter world will come to the stage on July 30, 2016, at the Palace Theater in Shaftesbury Avenue, London. The upcoming two-part play was written by Jack Thorne, but not to worry, J.K. Rowling collaborated with him on the elements of the play. One important aspect to know, and something that Rowling has stressed, is that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not a prequel to the original series, but is a sequel and the official eighth Harry Potter book. Yes, you read that right; to millions of people’s excitement, the script will be transferred into a book that will be available for purchase on July 31, 2016.
Since books and movies alone could never satisfy a Harry Potter fan’s needs, a new Wizarding World of Harry Potter recently opened in California. That makes a total of four Harry Potter themed parks around the world. This just goes to show the impact that this magical story has had on the ordinary world that we live in.
Get ready because these new additions will be captivating and will hopefully leak a little more magic into our normal, everyday lives. Rowling gave us the gift of magic with the release of the first Harry Potter book. She cast a spell onto the Muggle world, causing people of all ages worldwide to become absorbed in the life of the boy who lived, creating a story that will never die.
