Science Teacher Loves His Chemistry

After being expected to win Districts last year and suffering a devastating 7-3 loss to Warrenton, the boys with the bats are back and stronger than ever. Coached by science teacher Mr. Frank Schlenke, the varsity team has been hard at work in preparation to have a fantastic post-season this year. With a new mix of players, the chemistry on this team could make Coach Schlenke very proud.

Ask anyone and they will tell you that the support system of any team is found through veteran players. This year, seven seniors bring support to the table, guiding their underclassmen teammates on and off the field. While the team spends a good portion of their day together, one can find them spending their nights and weekends with each other not just as teammates, but great friends. Great chemistry is something that comes easy to this group of players.

“The chemistry is very, very good this year. The chemistry on last year’s team was good, but it’s very good this year also,” said Coach Schlenke.

These players may all get along, but they still have to play the game, and play the game they have. Currently, this team is on a four-game win streak, the bats have really come to life and the pitchers have only given up 10 runs in those four games. The many hours of batting practice and defensive preparation are assuring wins on the field and will lead this team the rest of the way.

“It really doesn’t matter what happened in the past; it matters what happens in the future,” said Coach Schlenke.

The will to win is in the dugout this year. With a fantastic support system of not just coaches, parents and fans, but also each other, team chemistry and hard work should carry this team far into the post season. Stop by the Norm Ochsner Field this season to support the boys with the bats!
