Prom Prep

Prom is less than a month away! Boys are most likely unphased by this time crunch but if you are a girl, I can guarantee your heart just skipped a beat. Hair, nail and makeup appointments, dress shopping and accessorizing are probably just a few of the things running through your mind. “A Night Under the Lights” is approaching faster than you think and prom preparation is underway.

Unfortunately, prom is not accomplished by a simple “bibbidi-bobbidi-boo” of a fairy godmother’s wand. The prom committee has been working hard to plan every last detail of “A Night Under the Lights.” Members have tasted food for the menu and shopped for the decorations to be hung up at Old Hickory Country Club. Time and effort was put into creating theme ideas and voting for the best one.

“A Night Under The Lights” was originally going to be a more elegant version of an Enchanted Forest theme, focusing more on colors like white and gold, but now it resembles a popular theme, State of Grace, with a few surprises we feel everyone will like,” said junior Jordyn Hardy.

The prom committee is not the only group making plans for prom this early; most of the junior and senior girls have been anticipating this night for months. Dress shopping began in January, and Pinterest boards for hair and makeup ideas are overflowing.

“In preparation for prom, I’ve been looking for a pair of shoes to match my dress, and for fancy updos or hairstyle ideas! I am already planning how I want my nails and makeup to be done,” said junior Lindley Schwartz.

“I have had my prom dress since September. I ordered it online from Peaches,” said junior Lexi Browning.

The girls of St. Dominic are clearly ahead of the game with everything planned out and organized. The only thing they need to complete this fairy tale is a date to sweep them off their feet. Boys have less than three weeks to man up and “prompose.” So, what have they been doing to prepare?

“I could make something up, but to be honest I haven’t done anything,” said junior Will Wallis.

“I don’t even know how to prepare for prom,” said junior Matt Prost.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. The girls are on track for “A Night Under the Lights,” but the boys have a lot of work to do. Hopefully, in the next few weeks we will see some amazing promposals so the guys can redeem themselves.

If you haven’t booked your appointments yet, don’t worry! Word on the street is that there are plenty of local businesses who provide great service. Here are few suggestions from St. Dominic students:

Nails: August 1st Nails in Chesterfield and AV Nails in O’Fallon.

Hair: Image Makers Salon in Lake St. Louis, Lulu’s Hair Parlor on Highway K and Chic Salon & Boutique in O’Fallon.

Whether you have been preparing for months, or are just getting started, “A Night Under the Lights” will be one to remember.
