St. Dominic Ladies Lax

Lacrosse has recently made a resurgence over the last couple of decades. With more colleges offering scholarships for the sport, high schools are now forming their own lacrosse teams. St. Dominic created their own girls team two years ago in 2014. They are coached by Mr. Hancock and have been growing more successful since.

In St. Dominic’s first year of lacrosse, they finished with a record of 1-7. Our second year in the league was an outstanding leap forward for the team as they ended their season 7-5, taking down large teams such as Notre Dame and Hazelwood Central. This season they plan to do better than ever before and hopefully go farther into the playoffs.

The Lady Crusaders’ biggest rival is Pattonville, who they beat last year and defeated this year in sudden death overtime, winning their home opener with a score of 11-10. In their next game they would shut out Hazelwood Central with a score of 17-0. The girls have been working extremely hard this year as they started practicing late this winter. Sophomore midfield starter Riley Luetkenhaus, is very enthusiastic about the season.

“We are really looking forward to our game against Barat Academy. They are a good team and it will be a tough game,” said Luetkenhaus.

In an intense game against Westminster, the ladies lost 13-12.

“Last year, we lost to them by over ten points. Being defeated by one of the top teams this year by only one point is an accomplishment for us.  We held our own this year and we are really proud of that,” said senior attack Jen Sutterer

The girls will be playing the majority of the second half of their season on the road. So with a few home games remaining, make sure to go check them out! They play Parkway Central on April 19 and Parkway North on April 28. We hope for the best for our Lady Crusaders!
