Disney Doesn’t Disappoint: Zootopia Movie Review

Zootopia stampeded into the theaters on March 4, 2016. A movie that brought in both crowds of kids and the kids at heart, Zootopia is a heart warming, relevant film that contains messages of coexistence and determination. The film includes everything from comedy, action and romance that will keep the viewers’ eyes glued to the screen.

The film follows Judy Hopps, a brave young bunny that has a unique dream to become a police officer. She perseveres through the judgmental doubts from her parents and society and proves them wrong. Judy packs her bags and leaves her quaint, safe home for the land of Zootopia, a busy city where “anything is possible.” She faces many obstacles and works hard to continuously prove that she is worthy to be an officer. After being placed on parking duty, Officer Hopps begs for a more challenging task. Against the commander’s will, she takes on a major case, which she is given 48 hours to solve.

Shakira as Gazelle, Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde, all did a fantastic job of making this animated film come to life. You couldn’t help but fall in love with the cute, furry creatures and their personalities.

“The genius of “Zootopia” is that it works on two levels: it’s both a timely and clever examination of the prejudices endemic to society and an entertaining, funny adventure about furry creatures,” said Jen Chaney in The Washington Post.

I walked into the theater with no expectations for the movie but by the time the credits rolled, I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the film. It was well thought out and kept me engaged the entire time. The 3D version even had me jumping in my seat during the action moments!

I would say that this is one of the best movies Disney has made in a long time. I would give Zootopia 4 out of 5 stars. The only negative aspect was that I felt two hours was a little too long for the movie. Other than that, I would strongly recommend watching this movie with friends or family.
