What to Wear on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and whether you are going out on a date with your boyfriend or with your best friends, the perfect look doesn’t have to be hard to achieve.

  1. Outfit

Important factors to consider when choosing an outfit for Valentine’s Day are who you are hanging out with and where you are going.

If the occasion is formal, a dress, jumpsuit or two-piece outfit (consisting of dress shirt and skirt) are good options. As for the design of your outfit, patterns are a fun way to express your personality. Some traditional patterns include floral print and stripes. My go-to pattern on Valentine’s Day is polka dots. They add a feminine touch to any outfit making them perfect to wear on the “Day of Love.” For shoes, opt for a comfortable pair of wedges or pointed-toe heels.

If you are hanging out with friends on Valentine’s Day, you can put together a more casual look. Jeans are always safe, classic and can be worn with almost everything. To stay comfortable, add a sweater and some trendy tennis shoes such as Converse.

I have always loved lipstick and the multitude of shades it can come in. My favorite type of lipstick is matte; the finished look is so beautiful and it also lasts a long time.

Two popular lipstick colors to wear on Valentine’s Day are obviously pink and red, but don’t feel restricted to wearing just those colors. A dark plum color would also work for the occasion. However, if you just aren’t that into bold lipstick, a nude or blush-toned lipstick would give your lips a subtle hint of color without being too dramatic.

My favorite drugstore brand of lipstick is the “Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm.” The product comes in a variety of shades that look good on different skin tones. The color payoff is amazing and it is nourishing enough for your lips so they are not left chapped.

For hair, I would recommend loose curls. It is a cute-yet-versatile hairstyle that can be dressed up or dressed down.

How to do: Use any curling iron or wand that has at least a two inch barrel. (The larger the barrel, the bigger the curls). Wrap medium-sized pieces of hair around the wand, alternating directions. When finished, seal the curls with hairspray to ensure that they last all night.

You can either wear your hair down so that your curls are loose and flowing, or if you want your hair out of your face, gather it in a ponytail. To make the pony look more elegant, separate a piece of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the hair band, securing it with a bobby pin. To finalize the look, add a decorative headband or head wrap and you are good to go.

Picking out your outfit for Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be hard. No matter what your plans are, there is always something perfect you can find to wear.
