With the help of student council and administration, St. Dominic has had yet another successful Catholic Schools Week this year. The week-long celebration was certainly a fantastic way to remind us students how blessed we are to attend a school where we are able to openly act on our Catholic faith while receiving a great education.

Members of the St. Dominic community slipped on their sandals and began the usually-dreaded Monday in the presence of tropical breezes and sandy beaches. The first theme of the week was everything Hawaiian and colorful leis and flowy Hawaiian shirts took over the student body.

Tuesday morning, students wearing groutfits (grey outfits) could be seen left and right. The previous day, everyone received a slip of paper with a familiar face on it: Ms. Fetter. Worth three dollars, this could be used on Tuesday to purchase a snow cone or food item from one of the food trucks presented to the students. The food trucks offered delicious food selections like tacos, salads, pasta and pizzas.  The excitement did not end with the irresistible lunch choices; the week had barely even begun!

After the busy lunch schedule, students had the opportunity to play ping pong on the mezzanine, board games in the small gym, kickball in the new gym or sing karaoke in the PAC. Karaoke was most definitely a hit. Many eager students had their time to shine onstage.

“It was such a rush! ‘Party in the USA’ turned into ‘Party in the PAC!'” said sophomore Lexi Burkemper, who was one of the many karaoke participants.

To the disappointment of many students, Wednesday was uneventful as there was not a dress down theme. Teachers and administration wanted to focus on domestic violence as well as student athletes who signed for college sports on National Signing Day. However, those are not the only reasons for Wednesday’s monotony.

“According to notes from previous years, administration decided it was appropriate to take a break from the roar of all the activity happening and keep classes rolling. We are the type of school that is able to celebrate our faith and continue to keep working hard at the same time,” said principal Mrs. Eaton.

On Thursday, things picked back up. Students and staff dressed for twin day gathered in the hallway to join hands and pray the St. Dominic blessing together.

The grand finale of the week was nothing short of spectacular. On Friday, a pep assembly was held in the new gym during contact time for some high quality entertainment. It began with a challenging game of Family Feud, hosted by history, sociology and psychology teacher Mr. Scott Moore. Following this portion of the assembly was a ground-breaking drum-off between sophomore Wyatt Forhan and senior Lucas Provine, the winner being Provine. After the intense drum-off, a short game of Deal or No Deal was played which was also hosted by Mr. Moore. The contestants in this game, senior Sarah Norsen and junior Tyler Johnson, had the chance to win awesome prizes such as the first parking spot or a twenty-five dollar Wehrenberg movie theater gift card. Lastly, senior Alex Cook was recognized by Mr. Welby and Mr. Menke for scoring her one-thousandth high school girls basketball career point on Thursday night against Duchesne High School.
